One issue often confronted when teaching is in providing feedback about the state of marking. Students have a tendency to ask "have you finished yet?" or "when will the results be published?". A simple meter can be created that shows students marking progress as follows and can be included in Moodle (or software that allows the text color and background to be set (unfortunately not wordpress so I can't show the full effect here):
Mark-o-meter: (Assessment x): 3/19 :::................
If you set the background color to the same as the foreground a bar graph will be shown.
