Google plus... On its way out #vmvwiki

Facebook triumphs as Google bids adieu to its social network ‘Plus’

Google is bidding adieu to Google Plus, an awkwardly named social network that the American search engine had launched four years ago hoping it would become a serious rival to Facebook.

Why you should be an e-resident of Estonia #vmvwiki

From summer 2015, you can go to the nearest Estonian embassy and apply for e-residency.
The most advanced digital society in the world is a former Soviet Republic on the edge of the Baltic Sea. And by handing over €50 and a photograph, allowing my fingerprints to be taken and waiting a few weeks while my credentials were verified, I have been issued with an identity card, a cryptographic key and a PIN code to access its national systems.

DDoS attacks on the rise in New Zealand #vmvwiki

There is a strong growth in the average size of DDoS attacks, from both a bits-per-second and packets-per-second perspective, according to Arbor Networks’ Q2, 2015 global DDoS attack data. Average attack size for New Zealand increased significantly to 1.1Gbps/241.95Kpps in Q2 from 430.84Mbps/55.39Kpps in Q1. The majority of attacks in New Zealand were very short-lived, and approximately 97% were less than one hour. The top three sources for attacks on New Zealand in Q2 were China 6%, US 6% and NZ 1%.

Web design is dead #vmvwiki

Web design is (finally!) dying of irrelevance. Web pages themselves are no longer the center of the Internet experience, which is why designers need to move on to the next challenges — products and ecosystems — if they want to stay relevant.

#Bluetooth framework for teaching #vmvwiki #vmvhw

This post will be a record of things I discover while trying to set up a Bluetooth framework for teaching (so this post will actually be more like a wiki and change!)

1. Speakers.

2. Mouse.

Configuration issues

Problem: Device disconnects

It appears that by default Windows power saving kills a USB device. The mouse connected would die and not reconnect. To disable this you need to

  1. go to Start > type in "Device Manager" >

  2. Expand Bluetooth Radios >

  3. Right click on Generic Bluetooth Adaptor + Properties, and

  4. uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
